Fiano d'Avellino DOCG - Villa Raiano
Villa Raiano crafts its Fiano di Avellino using 100% Fiano grapes sourced from multiple vineyards across the Avellino province, including Montefredane, Candida, Lapio, and San Michele di Serino. These sites vary in altitude (450-500 meters above sea level) and soil composition, blending chalky, hard soils from Montefredane with the clay-rich estates of San Michele di Serino (subdivided into areas like Contrada Bosco Satrano, Lapio, Contrada Arianiello, and Contrada Campore). This diversity contributes to the wine’s complexity.
The wine is a fresh yet complex expression of Fiano. Bright straw yellow with subtle greenish hues. On the nose, it offers a delicate floral bouquet—think glicine (wisteria) or elderflower—mingled with lifted citrus (grapefruit, lemon), ripe stone fruits (peach, pear, or yellow plum), and a touch of minerality or herbaceous notes like mint or sage. The palate is ripe and textural, balancing juicy fruit with a taut acidity and a mineral backbone. A signature bitter lemon or almond edge often emerges, alongside a lightly saline finish, giving it a savory depth that sets it apart from more neutral whites.
Pair with: Seafood (think roasted shellfish or fish with citrus), vegetable dishes, sushi, or even richer fare like porcini mushroom lasagna, thanks to its texture and acidity.
