Taurasi DOCG - Villa Raiano

$44.00

100% Aglianico

Villa Raiano Taurasi DOCG is a prestigious red wine from the Campania region of southern Italy, made exclusively from the Aglianico grape.

Taurasi is often compared to Italy’s iconic northern reds like Barolo and Brunello di Montalcino due to its intensity and structure, yet it retains a distinct southern Italian character shaped by Campania’s warm climate and volcanic soils. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for future enjoyment, it’s a standout expression of one of Italy’s most celebrated wine regions.

The vineyards, primarily in the municipalities of Castelfranci and Montemarano in the province of Avellino, are at altitudes ranging from 450 to 550 meters above sea level with their calcareous-clay and tuffaceous soils, contributing to the wine's depth and minerality.

The wine is aged for approximately 12 months in oak barrels (often French oak or Slavonian oak, depending on the specific bottling), followed by an additional 12 months in stainless steel and at least 12 months in the bottle. This extended aging refines its robust tannins and enhances its complexity.

Deep ruby red color with garnet hues that develop as it ages. On the nose, it offers an elegant and layered profile, featuring red fruits like mulberry and blackberry, alongside notes of myrtle, bitter cocoa, tobacco, and a refreshing hint of menthol. The oak influence is well-integrated, adding subtle spices without overpowering the fruit. On the palate, it is dry and balanced, with soft, refined tannins, vibrant acidity, and a freshness that makes it suitable for long aging—often 10 to 15 years or more. Its finish is long and savory, leaving a lasting impression.

Pair with rich, flavorful dishes such as smoked salami, game, grilled red meats, ossobuco, or stuffed peppers. It also complements hearty Campania classics like Neapolitan lasagna or dishes with mushrooms and truffles.
